The Cosby Show Producer Opens Up Amidst The Bill Cosby Rape Allegations
With allegations mounting against Bill Cosby, his former producer is hoping The Cosby Show's reputation won't crumble like that of its star.
Tom Werner is speaking out about the scandal surrounding the 78-year-old, who is accused of sexually assaulting -- and sometimes drugging -- over 40 women throughout the course of his career.
While the producer didn't want to comment on the comedian specifically, he did want to address what this could mean for the popular program.
Tom hopes that, in spite of the controversy surrounding its titular actor, The Cosby Show is still perceived with positivity, saying:
"The legacy of the show is obviously very important to me, because the show was a groundbreaking show and it portrayed a middle-class African American family in a very positive way. It had a lot of stories that resonated with families because people watched it together. Obviously it's a challenging time for Bill Cosby and a challenging time for the show, but I'm hoping that people will still be able to watch the show and identify with the Huxtables."
This is one of the first times the TV exec has spoken on the subject. He also released a statement about Bill back in November.
