Buhari charges INEC, security agencies to function within the law
Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), yesterday declared that while he does not expect any “tampering” with this Saturday’s election, there may be “consequences” in an event there is a foul play.
The presidential candidate, who advised INEC and law enforcement agencies to work within the law and not allow themselves to be used by anyone, told the AFP that, “I don’t think this election can be tampered with, like the previous ones”. He stated this in reference to his three previous attempts at the presidency in 2003, 2007 and 2011, when the ruling Peoples Democratic Party’s victories were disputed and challenged in court.
Buhari, who spoke in Abuja after he ended his campaigns, expressed optimism that APC’s nationwide support, coupled with the commitment of loyalists to defend their votes at various polling stations would help to curb the prospect of rigging.
