South African rapper, AKA has joined Nigerian singer, Burna Boy in ranting on Twitter over the list of nominees released by organisers for the 2015 edition of MTV Africa Music Awards.
As Burna Boy did, AKA took to his Twitter handle to lament his absence on the Album of the Year category despite what he considers mind-blowing success in South Africa, UK and other African countries.
Though AKA is nominated in the Best Male and Best Collaboration categories, he feels his relationship with the media house should have robbed off on his nominations for the Album of the Year category.
Check out his tweets below…
It’s unfortunate that everything I’ve done in the name of Hip Hop over the past year and up to now is not being recognized by the MAMAs.

I’m very happy to be nominated for best male but it was pretty much a forgone conclusion that I would win best hip hop this year.

More than anything, It hurts because I’ve had a great relationship with MTV. It might not be personal, but what it is is disappointing.

All Eyes On Me not receiving a song of the year nomination hurts too. Not only was it huge in SA but many countries on the continent and UK.

All I can do is keep moving forward. MTV and the MAMAs really hurt me. I just needed to get that off my chest.

I don’t want to say “I’m on to bigger things” or anything like that … For me, The Best Hip Hop MAMA IS a big deal.

Anyways, I’ve had a great UK tour, the album went Gold and I’m proud of what that Westwood session did for me and AFRICAN HIP HOP.
