Justin Bieber, Usher face $10m lawsuit over alleged copyright infringement

Justin Bieber and his mentor, Usher are to face a big money lawsuit instituted by R&B singer, De Rico dismissed in 2014 following its initial filing in 2013.
On Thursday, June 18, Justin Bieber and Usher were ordered by a U.S. appeal court to face the $10m lawsuit claiming the singers illegally copied parts of a song composed by two Virginia songwriters.
De Rico, whose given name is Devin Copeland, claims that three songs by Bieber and Usher ripped off his song, ‘Somebody to Love.’ The lawsuit is seeking $10 million in damages for copyright infringement of De Rico’s ‘beat pattern, time signature, and similar chords and lyrics.’
The original suit was dismissed by District Judge Arenda Wright Allen in 2014. The case was revisited on Thursday, June 18, 2015 by the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia and a 3-0 vote found enough reason for the case to be reviewed.
‘After listening to the Copeland song and the Bieber and Usher songs as wholes, we conclude that their choruses are similar enough and also significant enough that a reasonable jury could find the songs intrinsically similar,’ Circuit Judge, Pamela Harris ruled.

A quarter century ago, after Saddam Hussein's Iraqi army successfully invaded and took over the tiny Persian Gulf nation of Kuwait, President George H.W. Bush famously drew a line in the sand against Iraqi aggression.
